Zhivye Dushi
Not just a reply to Gogol’s poem. Besides the “dead souls” of Chichikov, Manilov and Sobakevich, it also had living ones: hard workers and craftsmen — Mikheev the coachbuilder, Probka the carpenter, Telyatnikov the shoemaker. The people on whom Russia has always stood. There are plenty of such people in every walk of life today.
